Women of all ages face discrimination, which is reinforced when gender intersects with other inequalities in earning, access to employment, technological and financial tools access to resources and control over capital, access to education and healthcare services. At particular risk of discrimination are older women, who bear the brunt of multiple forms of discrimination relative to younger men and women. Against the backdrop of a global pandemic that has devastated and disrupted the lives of millions of people, women and older persons have suffered the greatest loss of life and remain vulnerable amid recovery.

This year’s 15th annual AARP-United Nations Briefing places a spotlight on older women and aims to transform political momentum into action that will empower older women and further promote gender equality.

The Briefing will feature leaders from across the globe on women’s empowerment and gender equity and will offer insights into how key stakeholders can engage in a dialogue and format policies that promote gender equity and the empowerment of women.

We invite you to join us for dialogue among a distinguished group of leaders:

Reem Alsalem, UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences

Edna Kane-Williams, Executive Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer, AARP
